The Why? Sports

When I was younger, I wanted to be Serena Williams and Tim Duncan (or somehow just sneak onto playing for the Spurs). You know, the casual two sport professional. Clearly, neither of these things happened, but I’m still a San Antonio Spurs fan through and through. (Only two posters of Timmy in my office)

I’ve now retired to much more intense adult leagues and company ping pong tournaments.

I don’t know what makes someone fall in love with something, but I know ever since I can remember, sports were it for me.

Anything I could catch or throw would somehow turn into a game, it still does. To this day, nothing makes me happier than playing a sport.

I ended up playing tennis at Texas Tech University and then transferring and finishing out at Belmont University.

One of my biggest regrets was not trying to play tennis and basketball in college for at least a year. But you live and you learn, and I had an incredible college experience.

From watching football games with my dad to seeing my first 30 For 30 (my favorite one will always be You Don’t Know Bo), sports have always found a way to move me. Never an emotional kid, the moment an underdog won or an amazing feat was conquered - chills would spread and occasionally a few tears would overwhelm me. I never quite knew why.

Getting older, I now see sports are more than a ball, a bat, or a puck. Sports have an ability to unite people and to bring us together. Look at the Olympics. Countries unite to cheer for one common gold, I mean goal.

Games crafted to push individuals and teams past their limits to achieve what they thought was impossible.

I know my love for watching and playing sports shaped me into the person I am today.

The gut wrenching losses. The glorious wins. The unforgettable memories.

In this section, I don’t fully know everything this will entail. There will be some feature stories and opinion pieces, but I haven’t quite nailed all the details out. The dream one day would be to launch a podcast to cover sports news and topics, but we will see!

Thanks for reading!
